Parish life includes both social events and opportunities for service to the community at large and within the parish. Weekly coffee and fellowship times, Lenten programs, the biennial Ascension Follies (which must be seen to be believed), and fall housekeeping of the church grounds serve to build fellowship in the parish. Local clothing banks and toy giveaways frequently use the full capacity of our gymnasium, and we make meeting spaces available to community organizations and other groups.
The Spires, our monthly parish newsletter, keeps us aware of both coming events and general parish news.
For the most part, parish events are organized and sponsored by several groups, which include:
The Episcopal Church Women (ECW)
fall and winter projects. A very large rummage sale in May is our spring project. These projects give us an opportunity for drawing in the unchurched shoppers whose purchases support outreach to Lakewood Meals on Wheels, the Lakewood Christian Service Center, and the Cleveland and National Red cross, and similar organizations. ECW also sponsors the 10:00 am coffee and fellowship time.
The Brotherhood of St. Andrew
The Brotherhood is a national organization on men and boys dedicated to service in the community. At Ascension, the Brotherhood underwrites the expenses of the acolytes and sponsors a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper, and an Ice Cream Social, as well as summer golf outings
In addition, Ascension also has an Altar Guild and a Lay Eucharist Ministry which provides opportunities for the
parish service.
